District and State Assessments California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program:
Beginning in March, students in grades 2-11 will participate in the California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. Two tests are administered for this program: SAT/9, and California Content Standards Tests.
Students in Grade 4 and Grade 7 will be given the California Standards Writing Test as part of the STAR program. We are expecting that scores from this test will be reported on each student's individual report that will be mailed home during the summer.
In accordance with state legislation, all students in Grades 2-11 will be tested with the SAT 9 and California Content Standards Tests in the Spring. Students in Grades 2-8 will be tested in Reading, Language, Mathematics and Spelling.
Students who speak Spanish as their first language, will also be tested in Language Arts on the CDELT in the Fall. The CELDT measures English Proficiency.
We will mail an individual report of your child's SAT 9 test scores during the summer.
Grade Level
Exit Skills & Multiple Measures
Grade Level Exit Skills for your child's grade will be sent home
in September in our Thursday f older.
Like other public schools in
California, we have developed multiple measures that we will
be using as a way of evaluating student achievement. This year
students will be given three Grade Level Exit Skill assessments.
If your child/student is achieving at the level we should expect,
he/she should pass at least two of these three assessments. These
tests were designed by Sonoma Valley Unified School District
teachers. Because the assessments are very similar to lessons
and activities students experience throughout the school year,
students will be very familiar with the content of these assessments.
·Students who demonstrate that they have not learned the skills needed to pass these Grade Level Exit Skill assessments, will be required to attend summer school.
·Summer school classes are designed to assist them in the areas in which they need additional help.
·During the course of this school year, we will also be developing other types of opportunities for students who need extra help.
·Please be reassured that if it appears that your student is likely to be having difficulties with the Grade Level Exit Skill assessments, we will be talking about it during the course of this school year.
·The best way your child/student can prepare for these assessments is to work hard in school and to complete his/her homework on a regular basis.
·It is important that you do all that you can to work with your child at home to help them remain focused upon the most important business of school: learning.
Standardized Testing
View our recent state accountability test scores
In accordance with the California Public Schools Accountability Act, the California Department of Education has implemented standardized tests to ensure compliance with curriculum guidelines and measure academic progress in California public schools.
California Progress Reporting (APR) takes into account a school’s state Academic Performance Index (API) in addition to federal measures of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Program Involvement (PI). Together, these reports help ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) measures achievement on the California Achievement test, given each year to students in grades 2-11. These tests assess whether a school is meeting state educational goals and measures progress from year to year.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a statewide accountability system mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 which requires each state to ensure that all schools and districts make Adequate Yearly Progress
